Play Area Near Denmead Destroyed By Fire Started Deliberately
A children’s park has been destroyed by fire after being set on fire deliberately by youths.
The park, at the new Newlands development between Denmead and Waterlooville, was opened in 2018.
Waterlooville Fire Station tweeted: “We have just returned from a fire in the open small. On arrival we found a well developed fire in a local playground, deliberately set by youths.
“One jet used to extinguish the fire and one playground sadly no longer available to be used by the public.”
The play area featured a range of play equipment with unique designs inspired by the surrounding area.
The final design was chosen by the local community from a variety of options created by Andy Frost, of A Frost Design. The design wae based on the theme ‘in the hedgerow’ formed by Andy drawing inspiration from the natural environment of the site.
Berewood Primary School, Denmead Infant and Denmead Junior Schools and Wellington Vale Care House helped with voting for the proposals and each designed a bench for the area.
