Denmead Tyres Legend David Rockett Retires Aged 80!

By Times Reporter in Business News on October 12, 2023

Denmead legend David Rockett has officially retired from Denmead Tyres – at the age of 80!

Dave, a former taxi driver, set up Denmead Tyres in the late sixties and has been a central part to Denmead for a very long time.

He was joined in the 1970s by Ian Jagger, who became his business partner, and the company’s custom-built garage on Hambledon Road was opened in 1991.

His son Wayne, who runs Rocketts of Denmead car sales, said: “Many people know him for different reasons, pottering around in the little van, collecting customers cars, dealing with customers at the desk and on the phone, getting lost going to the bakery are just a few of Dad’s day to day tasks -pretty impressive that he was still doing all of above at over 80 years old.

“Dad is very grateful to all DTS’s loyal customers, friends who travel from far and wide and all the local people who have chosen to use DTS. He’s had an absolutely amazing working life and we are all so proud of him.”

Dave’s retirement means Denmead Tyres Services has changed hands but Wayne says: “The team at the garage will remain the same, just under new ownership, and they will be happy to help.”
