Driver, 79, arrested on suspicion of drug-driving after elderly man seriously injured in Denmead collision

A 79-year-old driver has been arrested on suspicion of drug-driving after an elderly man was seriously injured in a Denmead collision.

Police were called to Hambledon Road in Denmead just before 6pm on Friday to a report of a collision involving a car and a pedestrian.

The pedestrian, a man in his 70s, was taken to hospital with serious injuries, where he remains in a stable condition.

A 79-year-old man from Waterlooville was arrested on suspicion of driving a vehicle whilst unfit through drugs and causing serious injury by careless/inconsiderate driving.

A police spokesperson said: “He has been released from police custody but remains under investigation while our enquiries continue.

“The road was closed while emergency services dealt with the incident but was fully reopened shortly before 11pm.”
