Fire engine crashes off A272 into field

A fire engine left a road, crashed through a hedgerow and overturned in a field yesterday.

The incident took place on the A272 near Cheesefoot Head shortly before 1pm yesterday.

Fortunately no one was injured.

Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service said it was not on an emergency call at the time and no other vehicle was involved,

A spokesperson for Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service said: “A second appliance was mobilised to attend the scene to ensure the welfare of those involved and for scene safety. There are no reported injuries. The fire engine has been recovered and taken to our workshop for repairs. An investigation into the circumstances of this incident will be undertaken.”
