Fury As Council Halts Garden Bin Collections – Which Residents Pay Extra For
Winchester City Council is suspending its garden waste collections – which residents pay extra for.
The council announced on Friday that it was suspending the £39 to £59-a-year service from today “due to staffing shortages.”
A spokesperson said: “If you are due a collection next week then please do not put your bin/containers out for collection.
“If your garden waste can’t wait beyond next week, then please dispose of it at your local household waste and recycling centre free of charge.
“We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.”
Residents reacted with anger on social media. One said: “How long is this likely to go on for? And when should we expect to be reimbursed for the missed collections that we’ve paid a premium fee for?”
Another said: “The point of paying for the gardening waste collection is because we, the elderly and disabled can’t get to the tip!”
One said: “So residents have to pay extra for a service and now you’re unable to provide it. Ridiculous.”
