Thanks to the generosity of Meon Valley residents at Christmas, Meon Valley Lions Club has been able to donate £1000 to Friends of Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) at Southampton General hospital.

The fund will pay for new admissions folders for families of children admitted to the unit.

A spokesperson for the Lion’s Club said: “Having a child admitted to PICU is a hugely stressful and overwhelming time for any family, with Friends of PICU and the new Lions admission packs, everything will be explained with reference to all the help available.

“A family into their second month at PICU with their newborn baby said ‘You just have to drop everything, work, family, house and spend every hour at the hospital, Friends of PICU make a difficult situation manageable, the difference they make is immense.'”

Friends of PICU is a charity that supports the Paediatric Unit at Southampton, one of only eleven such units in the UK supporting families in Hampshire and beyond. Friends of PICU family funds a family liaison nurse and help purchase critical equipment without which so many children wouldn’t benefit.
