Man arrested following collision which left young woman in hospital

A Wickham man was arrested on suspicion of drink and drug driving following a collision near Waltham Chase yesterday which left a young woman in hospital.

Police were called at 8.30pm yesterday to a report of a serious road traffic collision at the junction of Gravel Hill and Forest Road.

This involved a silver Vauxhall Astra and a red Benelli Tornado motorcycle.

The motorcyclist, an 18-year-old woman from Havant, was taken to Southampton General Hospital with serious but not life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the Astra, a 55-year-old man from Wickham, was arrested on suspicion of driving while unfit through drink, causing serious injury by dangerous driving, and drug driving. He has been released on bail until January 11th while enquiries continue.

Police are now appealing for witnesses and information.

A police spokesperson said: “We are appealing for anyone with information about this collision to come forward to help our investigation.

“Did you see either vehicle in the area around the time of the collision yesterday?
