MP To Hold Anti-Fraud Advice Event

By Times Reporter in Crime News on September 18, 2023

Meon Valley MP Flick Drummond is holding a fraud and scams forum next month to help local people avoid becoming a victim of the crime.

A panel of experts, including deputy police and crime commissioner Terry Norton, fraud police officers, Citizens Advice and a bank will be on hand at the event.

It will take place at Meon Hall in Pound Lane, Meonstoke, on Friday October 6th from 5pm to 7pm.

“Fraud and scams are a huge problem as more and more people use the internet for banking and purchases,” said Flick.

“People in the UK lost £1.2bn to fraud in 2022 and that is the equivalent of £2,300 every minute but that figure is likely to be the tip of the iceberg as much goes unreported.

“There are more conventional scams out there too with people still knocking on doors asking for charity donations so the threats are everywhere.

“I hope this forum will shed light on what people can do to avoid becoming a victim. There will be tips and advice to be safer online and I hope people will register to come.”
