New Book Reveals Meon Valley’s Hidden War Stories

By Times Reporter in News on August 11, 2020

A new book reveals the hidden story of the Meon Valley during the Second World War.

Since 2012, Bishop’s Waltham Museum Trust’s oral history team have been recording memories of everyday life around this area during wartime.

Around Bishop’s Waltham In The Second World War, compiled by Trish Simpson-Davis, explores the war through the eyes of local children, from evacuees to air raids, rationing to D-Day preparations.

The stories, readable for Year five Juniors to adults, are illustrated by up-to-date photos and a map to locate sites. Bishop’s Waltham visits and scenic Meon Valley trips are there for all the family to discover our forgotten wartime history, this summer holiday.

The full-colour booklet costs £5 and all proceeds will benefit Bishop’s Waltham Museum Trust and the Bishop’s Waltham Society.

You can buy the book from local shops: Meonstoke Post Office, Swanmore Post Office, Waltham Chase Post Office, Newtown Newsmart, Bishop’s Waltham Post Office, Tashinga, Distinctive Designs, Budgens Supermarket and Bishop’s Waltham Co-op or you can purchase online here from P&G Wells of Winchester.
