Car Driver Comes Forward After Police Appeal Following School Bus Crash In Winchester

POLICE investigating yesterday’s serious school bus accident in Winchester in which three children received potentially life-changing injuries have located the driver of a car that passed the bus shortly beforehand.

Officers were called to Wellhouse Lane at 8.10am on September 10th after the top of the bus was ripped off in a collision with a railway bridge.

Police believe the driver of a blue Ford Focus may have information that could help their investigation. The driver has now come forward.

The Serious Collision Investigation Unit is also seeking information from anyone who saw the bus on its journey from Itchen Abbas through Easton and Kingsworthy.

The three seriously injured children required surgery. All the students involved are aged between 11 and 16.

Detective Constable Cate Paling, senior investigating officer, said: “This was a serious collision and our investigation will look to identify the exact circumstances.

“We have been working closely with the school and Hampshire County Council to provide support to the students and their parents. We thank everyone for their cooperation.

“We ask members of the public not to speculate about the incident on social media.
