Women Try To Rob Grandfather In Bishop’s Waltham – Second Case In Two Weeks

By Times Reporter in Crime News on July 23, 2021

Two women attempted to rob a grandfather of his watch in Bishop’s Waltham this morning – two weeks after a similar case in Waltham Chase.

Two women, described as Eastern European, tried to steal the man’s Rolex watch near Bishop’s Waltham’s duck pond.

The man’s granddaughter said: “They had been following my grandparents around Bishop’s Waltham before the incident, then approached them claiming they were doing a questionnaire.

“Whilst trying to distract them, one of the women managed to unclip the watch and started to shake his arm vigorously. Thankfully he managed to pull his arm away shouting ‘my watch’ and the two women ran off.  Both grandparents are very shaken up.” We understand the women may have later been seen in Swanmore.

A spokesperson for Hampshire Police said: “We were called just before 12.30pm today, 23 July, to reports of an attempted robbery on Winchester Road, Bishop’s Waltham.

“The victim and his wife were approached by two women who asked them to sign a petition, one of the women then grabbed the victim by the hand and started shaking it. The victim realised she was trying to take his watch off and moved his hand away. Nothing was stolen in the incident.”

Two weeks ago an 86-year-old man was robbed of a watch in Waltham Chase and was injured during the incident.
